Momma Molasses & Banjo Mitch at Habitat Brewing

Join Momma Molasses and Banjo Mitch at Habitat Brewing on June 15th 9-11pm for a rootin' tootin' good time, with live music and tasty craft beers!!!

Banjo Mitch McConell has been banging out their distinct renditions of traditional Appalachian tunes along with hefty amounts of originals in Western North Carolina for the last decade. Mitch has been gaining recognition in the old time scene by sweeping up awards at the Grass Roots festivals in New York and North Carolina. Mitch has powerful vocals leading the audience on a thrilling tour of the backwoods we either all remember or would like to know.

Momma Molasses' music interlaces Americana, Folk, Alt-Country, Old Time, and Soul music into a uniquely timeless sound. With a rolling contralto voice thats scales over homespun finger-picked guitar, in haunting lamentations. Warm, rich, and passionate, her songs embrace, and captivates listeners, soothing well warn hearts with vunerable lyricism.

Momma Molasses is the musical project of singer-songwriter Ellen "Ella" Patrick. Originally from a small town in the "Pines" or "Sandhills" of NC, Patrick grew up with a deep love of music, and began playing stringed instruments at an early age while singing gospel music in church, learning old country songs from her Uncle John, and obsessively listening to folk ballads from her parents dusty late 60’s record collection. While in college at Warren Wilson, just outside of Asheville, Patrick studied Fine Art, while also taking classes in old-time, and bluegrass music, and later played fiddle for bands in the Asheville area.

A few years, Patrick decided cook up some songs of her own, with a recipe consisting of equal parts Southern Appalachia, 1940's Country Swing, and 1960's folk revival. With her sweetly stirring voice Momma Molasses has been likened by listeners to artists such as Patsy Cline, "Mother" Maybelle Carter, and early (pre-rock n’ roll) Janis Joplin. Currently based in Johnson City, TN Momma Molasses travels and plays regionally through out Appalachia T.N., and N.C.
